This position is located in the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation's (PBGC), Actuarial Services & Technology Department (ASTD).

  • Direct the review of actuarial valuations and benefit calculations for plans trusteed by  PBGC, ensure that work is accomplished in accordance with professional actuarial standards, applicable laws and regulations, and policies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor actuarial practice to ensure that actuarial valuations and benefit calculations for plans trusteed by PBGC are accomplished in accordance with PBGC polices.
  • Provide oversight of actuarial training program, establish training classes and programs that meet ASTD training needs.
  • Respond to technical inquiries, provide authoritative guidance and technical assistance in actuarial valuations, ERISA benefit entitlements, and other actuarial matters.
  • Provide supervisory direction by planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, set priorities, and assign work based on those priorities. Develop performance standards and evaluate performance of subordinates.

  • Education Requirements:

    In order to qualify for this position, you must possess:

    A bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.

    Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

    You may start at a GS-15 with an annual salary of $137,849.00, if you meet the following minimum qualification requirements in addition to the education requirement listed under the Eligibility Requirements:

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Specialized experience is defined as one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the private sector interpreting, applying, and implementing the principles and practices of actuarial science and the laws. regulations, and policies governing single employer defined benefit pension plans.

    Examples may include: researching and resolving technical actuarial issues; developing, implementing, and monitoring actuarial policies and procedures; providing technical guidance on actuarial matters; and developing and providing training to actuaries.
