Marketing Statement:
The BLM manages more land - 245 million surface acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. Duties

Independently performs a wide variety of administrative support functions and specialized duties requiring a comprehensive working knowledge of special or complex subject matter, procedures, or practices.  Analyzes historical financial data as a preliminary to budget preparation and recommending budget adjustments.  This position requires a significant amount of independent judgment to make recommendations and take corrective actions to improve the management and control of budget and financial data.  Assist local application/database administrator in resetting passwords and providing training.  Purchases supplies and equipment through the agencies integrated charge card program.  Serves as a collection officer, making deposits, reconciling accounts and transferring funds.  Prepares travel authorizations and vouchers.  Works with timekeeping and payroll on attendance records.  Prepares and disseminates correspondence for supervisors and managers. Provides training on administrative procedures and process daily incoming and out-going mail.  The Administrative Support Assistant is responsible for interaction with public and providing information either verbally or in writing.

Requirements:
This position does not have a positive education requirement. 

As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

    Upon receipt of your complete application package, a review of your application will be made to ensure you meet the basic qualification requirements. Your rating will be based on your responses to the Job Specific Questionnaire and the information stated in your resume. If you meet the qualification requirements, your application will be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans.   In addition, interviews may be conducted for this position. The interviews may be conducted on a pass/fail basis or may be scored. The job specific questions relate to the following knowledge, skills and abilities required to do the work of this position.


    1. Knowledge of personnel and their assigned specialties in order to direct calls to appropriate staff.

    2. Skill in the use of office equipment; copiers, scanners, calculators and switch board, etc.

    3. Knowledge of the numerical and alphabetical filing systems used in the organization unit and knowledge of the functions and organization structures of the units supported.

    4. Maintain and retrieve information from automated applications/data system. 


    5.  Knowledge of the systems and processes involved in tracking expenditures and project and plan budgetary requirements.


     

    Qualifications:

    Specialized Experience Requirements:  In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-06) of the position to be filled.

    Specialized Experience for the GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-06.  Examples of Specialized Experience: Performing a variety of administrative support functions which require decision-making including; developing and formulating budgets, tracking expenditures, directing calls and visitors, using and maintaining a variety of office equipment, using and maintaining a filing system, retrieving information and document processing, preparing and running reports and purchasing supplies. Experience should include utilizing a variety of equivalent programs and functions; OR - Combination of Education and Experience:  Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.  Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.


    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.  You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
