The BLM manages more land – approximately 245 million surface acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. This position is located within the Nevada State Office in Reno, NV. Information about the areas can be found at the Reno/Sparks Chamber of Commerce.

This position is for Recent Graduates who have completed a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous 2 years. Note: (1) Certain veterans precluded from applying within the timeframe due to a military service obligation have up to 6 years from completing their education to apply; (2) Applicants who completed their educational program requirements after December 27, 2010 will have a full 2 years of eligibility beginning on the date the final regulations became effective, July 10, 2012.  

This is an excepted service, developmental experience appointment expected to last only 1 year under the BLM Pathways Recent Graduates Program. The BLM will require the selected applicant to complete a Participant Agreement in which it shall document the anticipated start and end dates for this developmental appointment.  

The agency may noncompetitively convert a Recent Graduate who is a U. S. citizen to a term or permanent appointment in the competitive service, as long as the Recent Graduate successfully completes the BLM’s 1 year developmental program and meets the OPM Qualification Standards for the targeted occupational series.

Physical Demands: The work is split between sedentary and physical. Because the employee may lead or often conduct on-site examinations, there is some walking, standing, bending, and requiring normal physical exertion. Onsite visits require physical ability to traverse remote rough country by cross country vehicle or by foot, sometimes in extreme climatic conditions to conduct field inspections.

Work Environment: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The work environment varies from an office setting to working outside in isolated areas under adverse weather conditions.

Duties

This position Serves as a contact representative responsible for the dissemination of factual information to the public on the BLM’s multiple resource management programs and services.

The incumbent is responsible for providing information and technical procedural advice, collecting cash, and performing property, fleet, and supply clerk functions all in accordance to regulation guidance.

    Qualifications:
    To be eligible, an applicant must be: A Recent Graduate who has obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous 2 years or other applicable period.

    Other applicable period may include: (1) Certain veterans precluded from applying within the timeframe described above due to a military service obligation, shall have a full 2-year period of eligibility upon his/her release or discharge from active duty. However, in no event, may the individual’s eligibility period extend beyond 6 years from the date on which the individual completed the requirements of an academic course of study; and (2) Applicants who completed their educational program requirements after December 27, 2010 will have a full 2 years of eligibility beginning on the date the final regulations became effective, July 10, 2012.

    In order to assess you meet a qualified status for this position and to refer you to the hiring manager, the agency must be able to determine that you meet the qualifications based on completed education, specialized experience, and/or both - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.

    For the GS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as: experience that includes answering internal and external inquiries; preparing written correspondence; provide assistance to employees and the general public; research laws, regulations, records and files.

    For the GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: preparing written correspondence in final form, review initial documents for adherence to filing requirements, reserach legal documents and a skill in the use or a variety of office automation systems and software.
