Marketing Statement:
BLM is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic.  The BLM manages more land - 245 million surface acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. The BLM, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Duties

The incumbent is responsible for the mechanical maintenance and repair of heavy trucks and heavy road construction and/or maintenance equipment.  Equipment includes motor patrol graders, bulldozers, wheeled tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers, heavy-duty compressors, generators, trucks, etc.  Adjust, repair, and/or replace differentials, clutches, transfer cases, power take-offs, front and rear trans-axle assemblies, steering and hydraulic braking systems in potentially adverse field conditions.  Dissassemble, repair and reassemble electrical system components.  Use specialized diagnostic equipment to diagnose problems.

Your rating will be based on your responses to the Job Specific Questionnaire and the information stated in your resume.     Qualifications:
    OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicant's qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties without more than normal supervision.

    This position requires special qualifications that have been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as screen out elements. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following will be rated not qualified.

    1) Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision.

    2) Class A Commercial Driver's License.

    Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.

    This position requires possession of a Commercials Driver’s License (CDL). As such, it is a Drug and Alcohol Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. If the person selected for the position does not currently occupy a CDL Drug and Alcohol Testing Designated Position, he/she will be required to submit to and receive a negative test result prior to appointment. A positive drug or alcohol test result may be grounds for denying final placement into this position. In addition, the Act mandates that the incumbent will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing and that he/she may also undergo reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing. 

    This position is subject to drug testing.
