Duties

This position serves as a Park Ranger with the Spokane District, Wenatchee Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management.  Duties include: Recreation planning; visitor use management; program operations; maintaining recreation facilities and infrastructure; driving vehicles over dirt, gravel and paved roads; operating equipment including trucks and trailers, tractors, skid steers, front end loaders and forklifts; collecting campground and recreation fees; communicating with the public about safety information, regulations and recreation opportunities.

    Upon receipt of your complete application package, a review of your application will be made to ensure you meet the basic qualification requirements. Your rating will be based on your responses to the Job Specific Questionnaire and the information stated in your resume. If qualified, your score may range from 70-100 points.   In addition, interviews may be conducted for this position. The interviews may be conducted on a pass/fail basis or may be scored. The job specific questions relate to the following knowledge, skills and abilities required to do the work of this position.

    1.  Ability to plan, lead and direct lower graded employees in various projects as they pertain to recreation management on include: monitoring of trends, visitor management and developing, constructing, and maintaining recreation facilities and amenities.

    2.  Knowledge of BLM programs, natural or cultural history, fish or wildlife habitat characteristics, techniques of resource protection and use, recreational use of Federal land, enforcement of Federal regulations,  and fire prevention techniques.  

    3.  Knowledge of the BLM fee program and FLREA guidelines (Federal Lands and Recreation Enhancement Act), including reservation systems and managing BLM fee sites.

    4.  Skill in communicating with the public about safety information, regulations and recreation opportunities.

     
    Qualifications:
    Basic Qualifications: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal Service, OR 18 semester/27quarter hours of graduate education in disciplines listed in the vacancy announcement,  OR Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) See OPM Quals Standard-General Policies E(4)(f), OR a combination of education and specialized experience described below. I will provide a copy of my college transcripts.

    In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-5) of the position to be filled.   Examples: Experience as a park guide or tour leader; archaeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation or conservation area; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; planning day to day operation of a recreation area providing such facilities as camping, water sports, picnic aras, coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel; advising visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, and proper and authorized uses of recreational facilities.

    You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.  Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
