BLM is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the Battle Mountain District team!

The BLM manages more land – approximately 245 million surface acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estates throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Duties

Provide technical support for administrative functions such as personnel, background investigations, collections, public contact, travel and training; maintain strict compliance with Homeland Security credentialing processes; serve a pivotal role in the collections and billing system. Deal with various members of the public, other agencies, and individuals on a daily basis in person, by phone and as required at public meetings.

These positions fall under the Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions there is no Individual Occupation Requirement for this position.

    Upon receipt of your complete application package, a review of your application will be made to ensure you meet the basic qualification requirements. Your rating will be based on your responses to the Job Specific Questionnaire and the information stated in your resume. If you meet the qualification requirements, you application will be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans.   In addition, interviews may be conducted for this position. The interviews may be conducted on a pass/fail basis or may be scored. The job specific questions relate to the following knowledge, skills and abilities required to do the work of this position.

    KSA 1: Knowledge of administrative and office management practices and procedures.

    KSA 2: Knowledge of accounting, collections and billing procedures.

    KSA 3: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively on a variety of topics with a variety of different personalities in varying situations.

    KSA 4: Knowledge of the capabilities, operating characteristics, and advanced functions of a variety of computer software programs.
    Qualifications:
    In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-05) of the position to be filled.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    For the GS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as: performing clerical administrative duties, working with the pubic and providing customer service, skill in computer software programs; OR 9 semester hours of graduate level education directly related to the work of this position as described in the vacancy announcement; OR an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education as described in the vacancy announcement.
