Summary:

How would you like to work on Capitol Hill? The Architect of the Capitol, Library Buildings and Grounds, Facilities Support Division, Operations and Maintenance Branch is looking for an expert Maintenance Mechanic. The mechanic will perform a variety of duties including maintenance, repair and installation of commercial/industrial air conditioning and heating systems, plumbing systems, fire sprinkler systems and electrical systems.

Major duties and responsibilities include the following:

Air Conditioning System Maintenance and Repair

Designs, lays out, and installs HVAC units. Installs and removes supply, return, and exhaust ducts. Lays out and designs routing, size, type and gauge for HVAC systems. Operates, maintains and troubleshoots malfunctions in equipment and systems. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance functions on chillers, boilers, cooling towers and pumps.

Adjusts, maintains, repairs and troubleshoots electronic and Direct Digital Controls (DDCs) including air handler units, electronic dampers, electronic valves, variable speed drives and Variable Air Volume systems.

Electrical Maintenance, Repair and Troubleshooting

Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Works with secondary power distribution lines and circuits. Maintains, installs and repairs electrical circuits and equipment during construction, maintenance or renovation of buildings, offices and workshops.

Plumbing System Repairs 

Plans, lays out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operations of feed and drain systems and equipment using blueprints, building plans, and sketches. Installs new systems and modifies and repairs exiting utility, supply, and disposal systems. Inspects and maintains sprinkler system fire and booster (jockey) pumps to confirm that proper system pressure is available.

Fire Protection Systems

Performs monthly fire extinguisher inspections. Inspects, operates and maintains commercial building fire alarm detection/notification systems. Impairs and restores system alarm points warranted by work project requests and maintenance and renovation completion status.

Responsible for environmental waste management.
